Wesley A. King, MD

 


Wesley A. King, M.D. is a neurological surgeon at the Skull Base Program, A Center of Excellence at the Los Angeles Neurosurgical Institute. He is recognized both nationally and internationally in the fields of minimally-invasive, endoscopic, pituitary, and skull base neurosurgery. He is at board certified expert in the use of “key hole” approaches to treat a wide range of brain disorders including pituitary adenomas, meningiomas, gliomas, acoustic neuromas, trigeminal neuralgia, hemifacial spasm, intracranial aneurysms, peripheral nerve disorders such as carpal tunnel syndrome, and Chiari Malformations.

As one of the original pioneers of endoscopic neurosurgery, Dr. King has championed innovative, minimally-invasive neurosurgery techniques since the early 1990s, and has taught these practices to neurosurgeons at UCLA Medical Center, Mount Sinai Medical School, and NYU Medical Center. Dr. King is also credentialed in Gamma Knife Radiosurgery, a highly-specialized radiation therapy used to treat brain disorders and brain tumors without incision.

Dr. King has authored or co-authored more than 100 peer-reviewed publications and book chapters. His groundbreaking text book on Endoscopy of the Central and Peripheral Nervous System was one of the first books published on this topic and laid the foundation for a new subspecialty of neurosurgery.

He is board-certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery and is an active member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, the International Society of Pituitary Surgeons, the North American Skull Base Society, the Pituitary Society, the California Medical Association, Crosstown Endocrine Club, and Western Neurosurgery Society.

Dr. King was born and raised in Los Angeles. He matriculated at Harvard University, graduating with honors in Biochemistry before completing medical school at Johns Hopkins. In 1992, he trained as a fellow at Nordstadt Hospital in Hannover, Germany, under Dr. Madjid Samii, one of the world’s experts in skull base and acoustic neuroma surgery. Dr. King completed his neurosurgery residency at UCLA and served as a faculty member until 1995 when he joined the neurosurgery department at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York. Dr. King returned to Los Angeles in 2004 where he serves as a foremost expert on minimally-invasive neurosurgical techniques to the Los Angeles Neurosurgical Institute.
